To every one of us in Ohio’s 12th District today who are facing eviction, the cessation of unemployment checks, the threat of your electricity being turned off, losing your health insurance, hunger or pain:

My heart is with you.

And I can’t begin to imagine your pain and frustration.

You are not alone. I see you. I hear you. I know you need support.

No matter what, do not feel ashamed. Don’t you dare.

This is not your fault. This is not your doing. The system has failed you and therefore it has failed all of us.

As a citizen of this country, the only country on our planet born into existence with a pledge to provide all of its citizens with life, liberty and happiness, you deserve a safety net.

The net should be catching you.

Why?

Because we all built this country. Our forefathers and foremothers built her and designed her to put her people first. And what a mighty country she is. Which brings me to this point – we know better.

Your elected officials have access to scientists, economists, historians, educators, business leaders and tech experts who could have been tapped months ago to prepare for this very moment.

Instead too many in public office have been and are still motivated by their own drive for more.

More money in their pockets, more tax breaks for their corporate donors, more, more, more…

And none of that has been for you.

Our system is broken… and you deserve better. Today, in this moment of crisis, we can see everything much more clearly.

Today, you are facing eviction because your Congressman voted against extending the Emergency Housing Protections and Relief Act of 2020, which would have extended the eviction moratorium until March of 2021.

Today, you are unable to fathom paying a medical bill on top of everything else because last night, your Congressman voted to strip protections for those with pre-existing conditions and kick 893,000 Ohioans off of their health insurance.

Today, your unemployment checks are stopping because your Congressman voted against the Heroes Act.

Today, your educators are being threatened with opening their schools or facing a lack in funding (ie, paychecks). And your Congressman has not denounced that threat from the President.

Today, your first responders and healthcare workers do not have enough PPE because your Congressman has not demanded the President to invoke the Defense Production Act.

Today is also a day you will never forget.

Today is a day when your elected leaders have failed you.

And tomorrow when you pick yourself back up and somehow find your way through this, because you will, you will never forget…

Your vote matters.

Your voice matters.

You matter.

And I will always be here for you. To fight for you. To advocate for you. And to hold those accountable who choose to cast you aside. No matter what happens, win or lose, I am with you. Nothing will ever change that fact.

To those of you who are not facing the worst today, please help us in our fight to remove Troy Balderson from office on November 3rd. This man is following his marching orders directly from Trump and Mitch. As a result, he is obediently attacking his neighbors with legislation that will continue to harm their health, their well being and their livelihoods for decades to come unless we stop him now.

And we can.

We can win. All we need is you.

Donate what you can to the campaign. Today. Not tomorrow. But now, we need to win this.

And please consider a donation to one of these amazing housing organizations.
